Teacher Workshops
Teacher workshops are an excellent way to provide educators with experiences that can translate into improved classroom activities that deepen their understanding of nuclear science topics. Teachers appreciate the opportunity to participate in off–site events, and also to have feedback from nuclear professionals who can provide the workforce perspective which will assist teachers in preparing students for their careers. Learn how to start a workshop in your area.
Boy Scout Merit Badge Workshops
The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) sponsor the Nuclear Science Merit Badge. The ANS student sections have developed a workshop to help members host workshops that assist the Boy Scouts in earning this badge.
Some of the direct benefits of hosting a workshop are that it introduces nuclear science to Scouts and attending adults, it encourages Scouts to pursue nuclear science in their college and career. Lean how to host a workshop in your area.
Girl Scout Get to Know Nuclear Patch Workshops
The Girl Scouts of America (GSA) currently does not have a nationally recognized badge for nuclear science and technology. As a result, the American Nuclear Society has established the Get to Know Nuclear Patch with the Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana council that can be distributed to all of ANS local and student sections. The patch requirements are similar to the Boy Scout Nuclear Science Badge, except with a focus on girls and teamwork . The requirements are suitable for Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors, however variations can be made to meet educational level of Brownies, and Daisies as well.
Nuclear in the States Toolkit
The Nuclear in the States Toolkit provides policy options for states considering the role of nuclear power in their energy mix. Sections can refer to this report to help state decision makers better understand the range of policy options available to them.
Nuclear Connect - In the Classroom
ANS has grade-appropriate resources and project materials available for educators that explain the many uses of the atom and the vital role of nuclear technology. Electronic versions can be found online.
